Johann's new album on 4AD, "IBM 1401, a User's Manual", will be out worldwide on October 16th. It will be preceded by an e.p.
The album is one extended piece divided into 5 parts and is written for a large string orchestra, keyboards, percussion and electronics. The main part of the record was recorded in Prague and Reykjavik in 2005-2006, but Johann has also been recording parts for the album in various cities around Europe since 2002. The music is based on sounds and music created on the first computer to arrive in Iceland in 1964. More info on the origins of the piece here.
